So, you have a question for us…
We often get asked questions, and increasingly, it looks like many of you have the same questions as each other.
Here is the answers to a bunch of questions we get fairly often.
Q: Can you please put up my video, picture, website, on your site?
We’ve set up this website so that union officials and supporters can create their own account and add content themselves.
We love getting emails that link to interesting videos, pictures, posters and so on, but what we really love is when you upload the campaign material to Creative Unions yourself.
We (that is, Atosha and Alex) have a relatively high benchmark for the kinds of posts we put up. We try to showcase innovative campaigns, or designs that are meet industry standards. We look out for union campaign material that is cutting edge, or tries something new, or is iconic.
This is not to discourage you from sending something to us, just to say that if you do, we may not put it up.
That’s why we encourage you to create an account and put it up yourself.
Q: How can I add content to this site?
We’re in the process of creating a little guide. However, you should start by creating an account with us. Make sure you use your union email address. We’ll verify that you are from a union or union-related organisation (if you are not, please make sure you email us) and give you author access. From there, you can upload images from your computer, add posts and publish them.
Creative Unions uses Wordpress, a free publishing platform. There are many good guides to using Wordpress, and a simple Google search will help you.
Q: Will you post about a job vacancy on your site?
Creative Unions does not promote jobs on our site, even if they are working for a union, or are creative or communications related. We are happy to post a link to your job (so long as it is union and communications focused) via our Twitter account.
There are many good union job sites out there, and our mission is not to compete with them, but to showcase good campaign materials and ideas.
Q: What kind of content are you looking for?
We’re compiling a list at the moment, which should be up in the next few weeks. In the mean time, we’re looking for union campaign material or ideas that showcases best practice. Our Creative Unions Manifesto should help.
We want material that is professionally designed, strategic, innovative and effective. We are interested in websites, posters, leaflets, social networking apps, street signs, placcards, ponchos, union merchandise, banners, YouTube videos, slogans and so on. Creative Unions would particularly like to see case studies of union campaigns.
There are loads of great union campaigns out there.
Q: Can I send you a cryptic email about a union campaign somewhere, leaving out most of the details?
We occasionally get emails from well-meaning union folk referring to a union campaign or activity or something. Unfortunately, there are not details and no explanation as to what it is, where, when or how we can find out more.
As we said above, we’re always happy to get emails and comments, but if you want us to put something up on our site, or link to it in some way, please make sure your email has all the relevant details and don’t assume we’ve heard of what you’re telling us about.
